I had a 3rd degree tear with my last baby but everything's healed fine now. Can this happen again?

There is of course a small risk of a tear in labour, but it is generally thought that there is no reason to go for a Caesarean unless you had problems with your bowels or bladder function after the pregnancy last time. With subsequent labours, the vaginal tissue has stretched before and tends to tear less extensively-if at all. Opting for an episiotomy is something that you could discuss with your midwife or doctor.
