Is it safe for my baby if I have a glass of wine during pregnancy? If so how often?

This is a really difficult question, as despite occasional alarmist publicity, there is very little or no direct evidence linking small amounts of alcohol consumption in pregnancy with adverse effects in your baby-or more likely-your child's later devlopment. The discussion is polarized between those that say no amount is safe, so no alcohol should be drunk, and those that are less proscriptive. So we would say that a small glass of wine or beer with food a couple of times a week is most unlikely to be harmful.
