What can be done if you''re in early labour and are having contractions, but your cervix is not dilating?

This depends on many things. If you are not in proper labour yet, then it is often better to wait until your cervix starts dilating over the next few hours, monitor the baby, make you comfortable and give you pain relief if necessary. If your cervix started dilating, but then stops despite regular contractions, sometimes your labour can be progressed by breaking your waters and if necessary giving an intravenous drip of synthetic oxytocin (syntocinon).
