At 14 weeks pregnant, I had a gush of water with bleeding and cramping. The doctors told me I had a tear in the placental membranes. What are the chances of my pregnancy being OK?

This very early rupture of membranes is rare, but it can happen, particularly after amniocentesis. If there is a leak from the membranes, providing an infection does not develop and the membranes heal up, the prognosis for your pregnancy is good. A scan after a few days will show you if amniotic fluid is re-accumulating around the baby, and you may be put on course of antibiotics. There is a chance of miscarriage: if you have heavy bleeding or cramping, contact your doctor straight away.
