Is it possible to lose parts of the mucus plug at 34 weeks, and is it normal and safe?

The mucus plug usually remains in the canal of the cervix until shortly before labour can be lost several weeks before labour begins. Losing it doesn''t mean that you are going to go into labour, it may just mean that the outer part of your cervix has opened up a little. This is of no real importance unless you have fresh bleeding, contractions or your waters break. In this case, at 34 weeks you should contact your local delivery unit or labour ward urgently.
