Why is it that some women''s urine pregnancy tests come back negative but they are still pregnant?

Pregnancy tests measure the level of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) in urine. As this hormone level drops later in pregnancy, some older and less accurate pregnancy tests may not pick up enough of it to give a positive result.
