At what stage should I put on weight?

During the first 13 weeks you may not notice any weight gain, the average is between 2-4lbs. However don''t worry if you feel you are putting on weight quickly. Your body is going from a non-pregnant to a pregnant state and you will be very aware of this. You may initally suffer from bloating, wind and constipation which will all have a bearing when you climb on the scales. In the middle 13 weeks you would normally average approximately 4lbs per week (14lbs in all). In the last two months (8 and 9) an increase of a pound a week is normal (8-9lbs) Towards the end of pregnancy it is quite normal to loose a pound or two, or have your weight remain static. This is only a guide so remember that no two women are the same and issues such as morning sickness, diabetes, twins, for example will affect weight gain. If you are worried about your weight, do mention at your next antenatal visit.
