If you have a stillbirth, do you have to have a normal delivery or can you insist on a Caesarean?

If your baby has died in the womb, then please first accept our deep sympathy. This is a terrible situation. If you are told that the baby has died, then the first reaction is grief, and then you want to have the baby delivered...preferably as quickly as possible. Normally, your labour can be induced within 24-48 hours and you aree highly likely to have a normal vaginal delivery. So that you don''t feel anything, or even remember the experience, you can be given an epidural or continuous infusion of a painkiller such as morphine. A Caesarean is not usually a good idea. This would mean that not only would your baby have died, but you would need to have and recover from a large operation, and you will have a scar on your tummy to remind you of this, too.
