I''m breastfeeding and my vagina is very dry and sore...why is this?

If you have been breastfeeding for a few months, it is possible that as you have stopped ovulating, your body''s oestrogen levels fall. Oestrogen is the hormone that disappears when you reach the menopause. The effect of lack of oestrogen is the same: you can develop flushes, dry skin, have no periods and your vagina may become dry, sore and reddened (atrophic vaginitis). This may be improved with cream from your doctor or when you stop breastfeeding and start getting periods again.
