What does the six week postnatal check entail?

It is done to ensure that you are recovering normally. You will be examined to ensure your womb has returned to normal place and size. Your bleeding should have stopped and you may even have had a period. If breastfeeding, this should be problem free and if not, your breasts should have settled down. You should have started to lose weight and be emotionally well. Your wound/stitches should have healed. If you need a cervical smear test, it will be done then and if you need and injection to immune you to German Measles (rubella), it is usually given be given. The doctor will also discuss contraception with you. Of course, the baby''s weight, head control gets checked, tummy is felt and he is generally given a ''once over''.
