What is a ''special care'' unit?

This is a term used for the paediatric wards which specialise in problems of the newborn baby. If your baby needs to go there following delivery, it may be just for observation and not be something sinister, long term or serious. Babies can stay for a few hours to weeks depending on what is wrong.Common problems include transient jitteriness, breathing or temperature problems.
