Why are my baby''s eyes sticky?

This may be due to a mild eye infection (conjunctivitis). Very common in the newborn. Clean the eyes using a piece of cotton wool dipped in cooled boiled water, working from the inside of the eye, outwards. Never go back with the same piece as you will just drag the infection across the eye. If you need to wipe again, use a fresh piece of cotton wool. If you still have breast milk (even if not feeding) you could drip a few drops into your baby''s eyes as the milk contains natural antibiotics that may clear up the infection. Your baby may, however, need to have antibiotic eye-drops. Tell your midwife and she will help sort this out.
