This is called ''projectile vomiting''. Within 72 hours of birth this tends to occur because there is mucous from the delivery in your baby''s tummy and this is their way of getting it out. After this time it is probably due to trapped wind, which, in its attempt to escape, brings all the feed with it. Rarely it can be due to a medical condition (pyloric stenosis) where a narrowing occurs in the stomach. The best indication that it is nothing to worry about is that you feed your baby again straight away and the feed stays put. If you are worried because it happens again, contact your midwife or doctor. |
