My nipples are really cracked and sore, what can I do?

Initially, women find that their nipples are tender because the sucking sensation is new and the nipples take time to toughen up. Persistent sore cracked nipples means the baby is not latched on correctly when feeding. Check that you are doing it right, ask your midwife. There are creams you can use which will help but basically the nipple is damaged and needs to heal. Expose your nipples to the air to dry as often as possible. Your breast milk contains natural antibiotics and healing properties so squeeze some mik out and leave it to dry on your nipple.
