What is engorgement?

It is the name given to your breasts when they are full, hot, swollen and painful. It occurs often in the first few days as your body sorts out the ''supply and demand'' feature of breast feeding. It is temporary and should settle. Hot and cold are very soothing. Try putting a cold flannel on your boob and then alternate with a warm one. Try this for ten minutes and it should help ease the discomfort. Or if you prefer you could try the shower hose, alternating with warm and cold water. Strange as it will sound you could also try placing two cabbage leaves inside your bra. The cooling effect is instantaneous.
