How do I express my milk?

By hand or by pump. By hand is less painful but slower. Pumps you can by are either hand held or power operated. Sometimes you can hire them. Ask your midwife. To express by hand, simply massage your breast for a few moments, then squeeze the brown area around your nipple (areola) and the milk will leak or squirt out. You can catch it in a bowl that has been sterilised. By pump, you place the funnel over your nipple to create a vacum. Then by working the handle/lever the milk is drawn out by suction into a bottle that is attached.
