Do I have to use cream on her bottom each time I change the nappy?

No, in the first couple of days especially in hospitals they tend to put on ''barrier'' cream which is basically a waterproof cream, to make the very sticky green stools that your baby first passes, easier to clean of the skin. Once the stools have changed to yellow, you no longer need the help of barrier cream. However most people do not like the idea of babies lying in urine soaked nappies and apply cream to prevent nappy rash. If you want to, by all means use one.
