I hate touching my baby''s cord...do I really have to clean it?

There has always been debate over this. Your baby''s cord is designed to dry up, wither and drop off, leaving the ''belly button''. so without any assistance this will occur. However, it must stay dry, in order for this to happen (in the first week). If the cord is dry leave it alone. After a bath, pat it dry, as you would anywhere else on the baby''s skin. If it has got wet with urine, vomit, or poo just clean the area with cooled , boiled water and cotton wool.
