This is the name given to the blood loss you have for the month following delivery. It is fairly heavy, bright red and may even contain some liver like clots for the first few days. By the end of the first week this will have become the old brown blood you have toward the end of a period. If you start to have fresh red bleeding again or pass clots, contact your midwife. This can be a sign that you have an infection or that part of the placenta was left behind (known ar ''retained products''). So that the midwife may check, if you can, keep the clot for her to inspect. |
