Is it normal to bleed after delivery?

Yes...it is! As long as you are not ''flooding'' with fresh blood and clots, it''s normal to have fresh moderate bright red bleeding with small clots for about 48 hours afterwards. This then eases off to become old brown blood for up to three or four weeks. You may find you lose a little blood when breast feeding as nature makes your womb contract to get it back to normal, stimulated by a hormone you release during breast feeding (oxytocin). You will need to wear maternity sanitary towels for a week or so and then you can use odinary ones. Tampons are not advised.
