On TV there is always lots of blood in labour/delivery...will I bleed a lot?

TV goes for the drama...there is very little blood at most deliveries. It is estimated after delivery and most women lose between 300-600mls (two drinking glasses full). In labour as your cervix stretches it may bleed a little, and there will be some bleeding as the baby comes through and with the delivery of the placenta. All of this is normal. Where heavy bleeding occurs in labour, this is not normal and will be investigated and dealt with quickly by the doctors and midwives.
