Who checks my baby and when?

Normally the midwife who delivered the baby does the first check. It is done within two hours of the birth and there is a detailed list of specific things to be checked. If the baby needed to be seen by a paediatrician at birth, then they may do the check as well. It is usually done in your presence and you are given the opportunity to check details and ask questions.
