When will I be stitched and who will do the stitching...I''ve heard it can be hours after the delivery?

Your cut or tear is normally sutured after the placenta is delivered and should definitely be stitched within an hour or two of delivery. It becomes more urgent if the cut/tear is bleeding heavily. In recent times in the UK, the majority of midwives have learnt to suture; prior to this it was mainly doctors who did it. As doctors are often busy dealing with urgent problems or operations, stitching was often left until last. So it is now most likely that your midwife will be able to suture your cut/tear.
