What will happen if it is confirmed I am in labour?

If you are having a home birth your midwife will stay with you and if in hospital, you stay there. You will be able to get up and move around, maybe sit in a bath, try to relax between pains. You and your baby''s well-being will be monitored through the same tests done on you when your carers first checked you, to establish if you were in labour. Most professionals will record all the details of your progress on what is called a ''partogram'', simply a large sheet of paper which will record all details of your entire labour. It is an easy, highly visible and therefore quick way of assessing what''s happening at any given time.
