When do I discuss our birth plan?

Once the ''basics'' have been dealt with and it is established you''re in labour the midwife will ask you about your choices. You can tell / show her your written plan and discuss it in relation to your situation as it occurs, although keep an open mind as things may change from how you imagined them to be! But don''t be afraid to say what you want. Discussion is the only way to let the staff know what is really important to you. If you feel unable to ''chat'' because of your contractions, ask your partner to do it for you. If he/she is going to do this, it is important that you have discussed it in depth between the two of you before labour is an issue.
