How long does each stage last?

Each birth, and therefore time-scale varies but as a guide, the first stage lasts between 8-14 hours, and is usually quicker for a subsequent birth. The second stage lasts about 1-2 hours, again faster if it''s not your first, and the third stage lasts up to 1 hour. Things which can affect this timescale are, for example, twins, first birth or if labour is being induced.
