What happens for the first few hours after a home birth?

The midwife will stay with you for a while as she has jobs to finish and so she can assure both you and her that all is well through observing you and your baby. Once she is happy that all is well with you, you are confident for her to leave, and she has examined/weighed baby and helped you to feed your baby, she will leave you, your partner and your baby to bond. A midwife will come back and see you later that day. You will also have access to the team via a bleep or pager system, the numbers of which the midwife will leave with you before she leaves you.
