What is good about having a home birth?

To begin with, you don''t have to leave your familar surroundings, and may feel more in control as you welcome the midwife into your home, rather than travel to a strange hospital ward. You alone can determine the atmosphere, make it as private or social as you choose, and possibly have children around (if not for the birth certainly much sooner than if you were to be delivered at hospital). Added to this, you have the reassurance of a trained professional in your home caring for you only.
