What do I need for the baby?

Hospitals usually provide some things, but this varies from place to place. Check with what is provided with your midwife, and rememeber that it is a good idea to plan ahead. However, as shops stay open 24 hours a day now you should be able to get what you need afterwards, so don''t panic if you find you don''t have something. You will normally need to provide clothes for your baby, if not in hospital, then for when you go home. Buy little because you probably will be given lots, and babies grow so quickly they often don''t tend to wear half their clothes! You will need nappies, milk if not breast feeding, blankets, mittens, barrier cream to protect baby''s bum, cotton wool/wipes. You will also need something to transport the baby home in, either a pram or car seat. Your partner or friends should be able to get these for you while you are still in hospital, prior to coming home, so don''t panic if you feel you''re not yet organised when the baby arrives.
