Is it normal to suffer from backache in pregnancy?

Backache is very common due to the increase in hormones (mainly progesterone) which are necessary to maintain the pregnancy. These soften the muscles and ligaments, which can result in instability and discomfort of joints. This is further complicated by the pregnancy growing and therefore expanding, which instinctively causes you to "tip" backwards resulting in further strain. Your back ends up curving in a much more exaggerated ''S'' shape than usual which can be very uncomfortable in late pregnancy.
