What are the chances of my baby surviving if he is born prematurely?

Assuming that there is nothing actually wrong with your baby, and he is a normal size, the UK, European and North American data suggests the following survival rates: 23 weeks 20% 24 weeks 40% 26 weeks 70% 28 weeks 90% 32 weeks 98% These are a rough guide, and depend on the circumstances of delivery, the weight of the baby, whether there is more than one baby (the survival of twins, triplets etc at the weeks quoted above is slightly lower), and the figures quoted by your neonatal unit. Furthermore, of those babies born at 23/24 weeks, up to 50% are handicapped in some way.
