Should I wear a seat belt when I''m in a car?

Yes, in fact wearing seat belts for drivers and passengers is now a legal requirement in the UK. Being pregnant does not automatically exclude you from this legislation unless you have obtained a certificate from your GP. Seat belts may be uncomfortable because of the bulge, but it is likely that wearing a properly fitted seat belt best protects the mother and baby from road accidents. In the event of a road accident, a seat belt may cause injury to the placenta or uterus therefore if you feel for whatever reason that you do not want to wear one, you must obtain an exemption certificate or you will be breaking the law.
