Women often experience acute itching of the skin. It is very problematic over the abdominal area as the skin stretches to accommodate the growing baby. The use of simple creams may be of benefit to moisturise the skin; sometimes an anti-histamine may reduce the itchiness. Very unusually, severe itching may be associated with liver problems, for instance cholestasis of pregnancy, and this must be investigated further by your doctor.
