I am pregnant with my second child. My first was over 11lbs born by emergency Caesarean Section I am worried that this baby will be a similar size as my midwife seems keen for me to try for VBAC. Is it likely that I will have such a large baby this time and is a scan a reliable way of assesing this?

You must be really worried..and it's only with hindsight you will know the answers to the questions you ask. 2nd babies tend to be slightly bigger than 1st babies, so you will most likely be assessed by your obstetrician and midwife-possibly with an ultrasound scan-at around 36 weeks to decide if trying for a vaginal delivery is a safe option for you. We would be very cautious about suggesting trying for a normal delivery if your baby is thought to be as large as your first one.
