Now that I''ve told friends about the baby, they keep telling me horror stories about their labours. They really upset me, how can I get around this?

One of the difficulties in being pregnant is that people appear to see you as a sponge, willing to soak up whatever advice or information they decide to share with you. It can be particularly difficult with parents, grandparents, and in-laws, because as they frequently point out, you are alive and well as a testimony as to how their pearls of wisdom work. In the first instance diplomacy is called for, be firm but tactfully tell them you have no wish to be frightened. If this fails you can always blame your hormones on any subsequent outbursts!
