What''s a Health Visitor?

Health visitors are nurses who have undergone 12 months further training to provide specialist care to people in the community. They have usually been midwives prior to this further training and are concerned with the health of the whole family. If notified about your pregnancy the health visitor via a GP will come and see you at home before the baby is born. Once the community midwife stops coming she will arrange for the health visitor to come instead. The health visitor will then be assigned to be responsible for your child''s health and development until he or she attends school.
