My first appointment for the hospital has come through, what will they do to me?

This is usually the longest antenatal visit you will have. This visit is usually arranged when you are 8-12 weeks pregnant, and may last a couple of hours. Feel free to bring your partner or a friend. You will be asked questions about your and your family''s health, present and past to check for diseases which can be passed down to your baby. It is a good idea to bring your partner because they will ask about his family as well. The midwife and/or obstetrician will gather this information from you both in order to spot potential problems so that your antenatal care can be specifically tailored to meet your individual needs. Many hospitals will perform a dating scan at this visit, too.
