I''m pregnant and I''ve got a coil in, will it harm the baby?
If you are unlucky enough to get pregnant with a coil in, first of all it is important to make certain that the pregnancy is in the womb rather than in the tube (ectopic pregnancy); this will require an ultrasound scan. If the pregnancy is in the womb and is early on, the coil can be removed but this carries a risk of miscarriage. Later on in pregnancy, it is often difficult to remove the coil and it may be left where it is although again there is still a risk of miscarriage or your membranes rupturing.
