When should I stop taking the pill?

It is sometimes said that you should stop taking the pill 6 months before you wish to start trying for a pregnancy. This is to allow your own period cycle to be re-established and enable accurate dating of your pregnancy from your last menstrual period (LMP). However it is quite safe to get pregnant immediately after stopping the pill, and with the availability of early pregnancy ultrasound, dating a pregnancy accurately is usually not a problem.
