You may need your Doctors help in investigating or treating medical conditions such as anaemia (low iron) cervical problems (abnormal smears) not being immune to rubella (German measles). Adrressing these potential problems can result in the likelihood of having a healthy baby and ensuring healthier parents. It is also advisible to start taking folic acid as a supplement at least 3 months before conception to reduce the risk of spina bifida.
