Is it normal to be short of breath in pregnancy?

It is normal to feel you cannot catch your breath adequately. This is partially to do with the increased strain on your lungs, coping with your increasing metabolism. Also as the womb grows into your abdomen it puts direct pressure on your diaphragm, hence your lungs, and this results in your finding it difficult to breathe deeply. Your body copes with this by getting you to breathe more often because your breathes are more shallow.
