This is my first pregnancy; how do I know if the baby is moving?

Sometimes you will feel slight movements, known as 'quickenings', from 16 weeks onwards, and proper movements after about 22 weeks. This is very variable, though, and the amount of movement is not a reflection on the health or activity of the baby because it can range from 'butterflies' to the baby 'somersaulting'. You should not be concerned if you are experiencing only few big movements early on in your pregnancy.
