Can I take omeprazole during pregnancy?

Omeprazole is a drug known as a proton-pump inhibitor. This reduces acid production in your stomach and can immediately reduce the symptoms of refractory heartburn and gastritis. For this reason it is often particularly helpful in treating hyperemesis in early pregnancy. It is not very commonly used in pregnancy, but has not been shown to have any significant adverse effects and therefore is used if necessary on the advice of a doctor.
