Where do I get the extra iron myself and the baby will need now, and at the end of the pregnancy?

Your body needs about three times as much iron per day in the last few weeks of pregnancy compared to when you first became pregnant. This extra iron comes from diet, and using up your stored iron reserves. You are encouraged to eat iron rich foods and may often be given iron tablets to supplement your diet towards the end. This should narrow the gap between what the body needs, and the iron you would normally get from your diet. In addition to increased iron intake, particularly in the latter half of pregnancy, your digestive system becomes much more efficient at absorbing iron from your diet.
