I am 20 weeks pregnant and have genital herpes will it affect my baby?

It is very unlikely to affect baby while baby is in the womb, as the virus very rarely crosses the placenta. The risk of herpes infecting baby is however higher if it is your first attack rather than a recurrence, and highest if it is a first attack at around delivery. In this latter case, Caesarean is usually advised.
