I'm 11 weeks pregnant and accidentally had a few drinks of water that contains Ginkgo Biloba. I've read this herb can be harmful-should I be concerned?

Ginkgo Biloba is a herbal product that is used for a wide variety of indications outside pregnancy and breastfeeding. A few sips as a 'one off' in pregnancy is highly unlikely to have caused any problem with baby at all. It is very controversial as to whether the herb is in fact dangerous or not. Nevertheless, we would caution against its use in pregnancy as some formulations have been known to be contaminated with other active compounds (for example colchicine) and it is known to increase bleeding time by affecting the platelets in your bloodstream. So-whilst it almost certainly hasn't caused any harm, we would recommend that you stay clear of herbal compounds in pregnancy as a general rule.
