I took three different pregnancy tests. One was positive, and the other two were negative. I still haven't got my period and am about a week late. Am I pregnant?

It's difficult to know for sure, but it is likely that if you are a week late for your period and one of the tests was positive, that you are pregnant. Tests vary as to how sensitively they pick up the pregnancy hormone hCG; if you do a test in a couple of days it should definitey be positive if you are pregnant. If you're still in doubt, your doctor could do a blood pregnancy test or even a transvaginal scan which might just show something at this stage.
How do pregnancy test kits work?

Pregnancy test kits require you to test a sample of your urine. The absorbent wand reacts if a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin), which is produced by the embro, is present in your urine. As a backup, many kits include a second test.

How to use a test kit Not all kits look like the one shown here, but they work in basically the same way. Remove the test wand from the cap or cartridge. Hold the absorbent sampler in your urine stream for a few seconds. Replace the wand into the cartridge. Wait as directed. If you are pregnant, both windows will show a color.
