It is unlikely to be serious, and sounds very like sciatica. This is a condition-common in pregnancy-where the sciatic nerve is pinched either on its way out of the spine, or somewhere along its course down the back of your leg. It is important that you do get checked out by your doctor just so that you can be reassured that you don't have a slipped disc. Changes in posture, gentle exercise such as swimming, applying a hot water bottle of even ice packs to your lower back and painkillers such as paracetamol can help. Sometimes, manipulation of the lower spine by osteopaths or physios can ease the pain too.
