Are antibiotics and cough medicines safe in pregnancy?

Most antibiotics are perfectly safe in pregnancy; your doctor will advise you about this. Similarly, many cough medicines can be taken in pregnancy though those containing pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine and other adrenaline like drugs that can cause blood vessel constriction and temporary high blood pressure are not recommended. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
