Is ultrasound always the most accurate way to date the pregnancy?

There is no doubt now that an ultrasound scan at the end of the first trimester-around 10 to 13 weeks, is the most accurate way to date your pregnancy. The baby's crown-rump length (CRL) "head to bottom" measurement is made, from which a due date can be calculated. This is more accurate than basing dating on your last period. If you know exactly when you got pregnant, for instance if you had IVF, normally the due date is then worked out from your IVF dates.
